20/02/26 – Early Man Hut Building

As part of their Early Man topic P5 built stone age shelters using natural resources alongside bamboo canes and tarpaulin sheets. After a recap of the FS rules children were encouraged to find a suitable site. Children were free to explore the different shapes and designs they made with the resources and at the end the class discussed which style worked best to keep out the elements and hopefully keep our ‘Stone age citizens’ the safest. Discussions had throughout with the teacher about choice of site/choice of materials/structure. Children were very engaged and lots of good topic links and discussion had.
