January 2026
In today’s Forest School session, children developed practical outdoor skills and engaged in creative, reflective play. We introduced safe stick‑whittling techniques using potato peelers, supporting learners to handle tools responsibly and with increasing confidence. The children practised steady hand positioning, controlled movements, and awareness of their working space, which helped to build fine‑motor skills, patience, and focus.
After tool work, the group explored natural mark‑making by creating their own “New Year’s resolution” paintings using mud as a natural pigment. This offered a sensory‑rich, hands‑on experience that encouraged self‑expression and supported discussions about hopes and intentions for the year ahead. Children used sticks, fingers, and improvised brushes to experiment with texture and pattern, enjoying the freedom and messiness of outdoor creativity.
The session fostered independence, resilience, and emotional reflection while also strengthening the children’s connection to the natural environment. Thoughtful hands, muddy fingers, and meaningful intentions set a grounding, hopeful tone for the year to come.
