The sun was shining again today for Forest School. We were able to get ready quickly as only wellies were required. We gathered at our seating area to recap the rules of Forest School and then walked up to our site in a line, singing our Forest School song. Some children were tasked with setting out the boundary flags and everyone else sat down on a log at our log circle. We sang some songs together and then the children played the ‘whistle game’ for a short time, to reinforce our rules. They were then given free time to explore and play in our site. The digging area was popular again today, with children finding sticks and various items to use as tools. One boy retrieved our wheelbarrow and made great use of it to remove some of the mud to the mud kitchens, ready for the ‘cooks’. Children worked together in a team, discussing their plan of how they wanted the digging area to look and how best to achieve that. They followed each others’ instructions of where and how deep to dig. Other children worked well in pairs and small groups to ‘cook’ and ‘bake’ soups, stews and cakes and gave great descriptions of what had been included in their recipes.
The children all gave an enthusiastic thumbs up at the end of our session. They took time to tidy away and ensure they ‘left no trace’ before returning to school.
