Making a birds nest.
Children were introduced to some birds (soft toys) who needed a bed.
We discussed where they live, in a nest and discussed what materials that we would need, leaves and twigs.
The children started to collect these items and shape them into a giant nest, we had some “nest testers” to make sure the nest was cosy.
Learning opportunities-
Physical;- provided opportunity for full body movement, running to get the resources, developing cross lateral movement and proprioceptive, children came up with the idea of using wheelbarrows pushing to an area with a lot of leaves lifting them in and bringing it back.
Language and communication;-children discussed what materials they need and one child directed the others to put the leaves in the wheelbarrow.
Personal Social and emotional :- Children collaborated together to collect items and also were able to independently collect and return items and make the shape of the nest.
Exploring and thinking:- Children learnt about caring for living things, they were problem solving using the wheelbarrows, they tested their design, making sure it was good for the birds, they created the shape in a circle and talked about it.
