24/6/25 – Nest Building

Today, P5 visited Six Mile Water River Park for a Forest School session linked to their bird topic. They began by exploring different types of bird nests and discussing where birds build their nests and the materials they use.

Working in small groups, the children then chose a suitable nesting site and collected natural materials such as grass, twigs and feathers. They used these materials to weave and construct their own bird nests, thinking carefully about their design and how a real bird might build its home.

To finish the session, each group shared their nest and explained their choice of materials and location. The children reflected on their creations and discussed which birds might use the different types of nests they had built.
