Having observed Dan lead a Forest School session with Primary 1, I replicated the activity with my Primary 3 class today. The children were split into small groups and tasked with creating a bird’s nest. Before beginning, we discussed what nests are usually made from and why birds build them high up for safety. The groups worked collaboratively to gather natural materials such as sticks, leaves and moss. Once completed, we looked at each group’s nest and the children gave thoughtful peer feedback, commenting on structure, materials used and how well it would protect a bird. All pupils were actively engaged, showed teamwork, and demonstrated good problem-solving throughout.
