2 March 2026 – Make a ship

Activity with P5 to show P5 staff how a Forest School session would run. Following discussion with P5 teacher, it was decided that the lesson would incorporate measuring length as this was their current focus in Numeracy. I then decided to give children the challenge of using natural materials to design a ship which met specific requirements, also coinciding with their World Around Us topic of Titanic. It was great to see the children work together as a team and to see problem-solving skills, such as breaking sticks to fit the specifications given, being used. Creativity was also witnessed as children decided which objects would best represent lifeboats or funnels, for example.
