Today was our first Forest School session of the new school year. We welcomed our new P1 pupils to their first ever session and spent some time beforehand talking about how we prepare and what we wear at Forest School. Once everyone was dressed in waterproofs and wellie boots we gathered together at the outdoor seating area and revised the rules of Forest School – ‘one whistle’, ‘two whistles’ and ‘have fun’! We sang our Forest School song on the way to the site, set out the boundary flags and reminded the children of what they mean. We then played the whistle game and gave the children time to explore the site. After this, the children had an extended free play session. Some children chose to use the mud kitchens, some enjoyed digging and others explored underneath the logs and other hidey-holes for minibeasts. At the end of the session we ensured to leave no trace, evaluated with thumbs up and returned to our classrooms.
