Introducing the campfire
We had a ‘Woodland Wednesday’ were all the children from Nursery 1 went to the garden area (27 pupils) We introduced the boundaries and the children in there groups visited each boundary to learn and understand why they were placed in those positions. On return to the fire site the children and adults talked about fire safety and the rule of ‘The magic Square’ that only the adults are allowed within the square. The adult then lit the fire and talked about the emergency services and what you have to do in the case of a fire that is out of control.
Snack: we cooked caramelised apples on the fire demonstrating safe distance from the fire

We finished the session with free exploration of the garden and our annual mudslide was started
