Tree Tribes 19 March 2026
Year 3 had a wonderful Forest School session focused on expression and creativity 🌿
We began with a fun game called “Pass the Expression”, where the children used only their facial expressions to communicate. It was lovely to see how engaged they were, and there were lots of smiles and laughter as the expressions changed around the circle. This helped the children understand how faces can tell stories.
We then read ‘The Secret Forest Faces’, linking the idea of expression to nature. The children explored the forest area, gathering natural materials before creating their own Tree Tribe faces. Using mud and water, they carefully shaped faces on trees and decorated them with leaves, sticks and other materials.
It was great to see the children relax in nature and enjoy the experience. Some were a little unsure about getting mucky at the beginning, but they soon got stuck in and fully embraced the activity. The children also showed great resilience—when something didn’t work, they tried again and adapted their ideas.
The session was very active, with the children running up and down Happy Hill to collect their resources, making it a fun and physical learning experience.
Our Tree Tribes look absolutely fabulous, and I know they will continue to keep an eye on Happy Hill for us – truly wonderful, magical creatures! 🌳✨
