6/2/26 – Raft Building

Today, P7 headed to Six Mile Water River Park for a Forest School engineering challenge. After a discussion about floating and sinking, the children explored which materials would be most suitable for building a raft and considered the features needed to help it stay afloat.

Working in pairs, they gathered natural materials and set about designing and constructing their own rafts. Throughout the activity, the children experimented with different ideas, adapted their designs and used problem-solving skills to overcome challenges.

To finish the session, the rafts were launched and tested in the river. The children enjoyed seeing how well their creations performed and reflected on the choices they had made, sharing what they would improve if they were to build another raft.
