It was lovely to get back to Forest School after the prolonged wet weather had made access to our site difficult over the last couple of months.
It was a glorious sunny day and the children were delighted to head outside!
We have been learning about the life cycle of a butterfly, and started the session by observing caterpillars growing in school. We then walked up to our site, placed the boundary flags and gathered at the log circle to revise the rules and routines of Forest School, and to talk about today’s activity.
After playing the whistle game, the children collected fallen leaves, petals and other natural items to create their own hungry caterpillars, threading them onto wooden sticks. As the children made these, there was lots of great discussion about what caterpillars eat, the stages of the life cycle, and which materials might be good or not so good to create our hungry caterpillars. We then took time at the log circle to admire each other’s creations, before finishing the session with some free play.
