20th March 2025- Spring flowers/ Planting sunflowers

We began our session by reading The Tiny Seed by Eric Carle, which sparked a lovely discussion about how plants grow and change. The children explored a variety of flowers, observing their colours and shapes, with a special focus on sunflowers. We examined sunflower seeds and talked about how they grow into tall, bright flowers with the right care.
Working in pairs, the children then took part in a flower-themed scavenger hunt, searching for different types of flowers around the garden. They practised careful counting and focused on forming their numbers correctly as they recorded how many flowers they found on their answer sheets.
To finish, the children planted their own sunflower seeds in pots. We talked about what plants need to grow—sunlight, water, and care—and each child made a special label for their pot to take home and continue looking after their sunflower.
