18 March 2026 Frogs!
This week we were learning about the life cycle of a frog as we had lots of frog spawn in the wildlife pond and the children were showing lots of interest in this previously. We started of the session with doing a frog jump challenge. Where the children found a stick and had to jump like a frog to see how far they could jump then put their stick down where they landed. Then they had to do it again to see if they could beat their first jump. The children really enjoyed this. Then we talked about what they knew about frogs. They were able to tell me that they eat bugs and had long tongues. After this the children were able to look in the pond and scoop some frogs spawn out to have a closer look at it. They said it was gooey, they also noticed which was new frog spawn and which was older by how big the tadpoles were getting. Then the children were asked if they could make a home for the frogs, so they set to work gathering what they needed. They talked about how the frogs were going to get in. Some of the other children went off to build with the big sticks and also trying to balance sticks in the really muddy areas of the wildlife garden.
