18/6/26 – Compass Treasure Hunt
P7 returned to the park to develop their mapwork and navigation skills. The session began with a recap of the four main compass points and a discussion about how the sun and shadows can help us identify direction.
The children then worked in teams to create their own treasure hunt routes using bearings and paced distances. They recorded directions and measurements before challenging other groups to follow their routes and locate a hidden treasure cache (some well deserved chocolate coins).
To finish the lesson, each team shared their route and explained how they used compass directions to guide others. The children reflected on the importance of accuracy when giving directions and how teamwork helped them complete the challenge successfully.
