17th November
Today’s Forest School session introduced the children to the celebration of Lunar New Year through nature‑based, creative activities. We began by talking about the symbolism of the colour red and how it represents good fortune and happiness in many Lunar New Year traditions.
Children were invited to tie red ribbons onto our woodland wishing tree, each ribbon representing a personal hope or intention for the year ahead. This activity encouraged reflection, emotional expression, and a sense of connection—both to the season and to one another. Many children shared their wishes with the group, promoting communication and positive peer relationships.
During free play, learners explored the theme further by designing and creating their own dragons using natural materials and craft resources available outdoors. They experimented with movement, storytelling, and imaginative play, expressing their ideas through dance, role‑play, and collaborative building.
The session supported creativity, cultural awareness, and fine‑motor development, while providing rich opportunities for child‑led exploration in a natural setting. We look forward to continuing our journey through Lunar New Year traditions throughout the week and deepening the children’s understanding of celebrations around the world.
