12th October 2022 – Camouflage: Birds and Worms

Explore objects in natural area – that begin with A, B, C… etc. Discuss and define the meaning of camouflage. Looking at images, children will see if they can locate the animal, and how they are camouflaged into the environment. Show children 2 different wool ‘worms’ – yellow and red. Discuss which would be better hidden to avoid predators. Split into 2 groups – worms and birds. Birds face the other way, while worms hide both colours of wool (remembering where they put them). Birds find the wool worms, then together count how many of each colour they found (should be more yellow as they are brighter/ less camouflaged). Switch over.
Leave no trace – all children go and collect remaining worms.
